A CT (cat scan) of the sinuses can be done if treatment has failed or there is concern of tumor, extensive polyps are present in the nose, or if there is concern of extension of infection into the eye or brain. Nasal endoscopy can help to visualize the drainage site of the sinuses or help obtain pus for culture. If the patient has had prior sinus surgery, endoscopy can be used to see in the operated sinus to determine if there is infection or swelling of the lining.


Allergy testing is considered if examination  and history suggest this can be a contributing factor.
